Job Summary:

The person in this position performs Maintenance and Functional Test Flights on military or commercial rotary wing aircraft assigned as military use platforms.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Performs flight readiness inspections, completes maintenance forms and aircraft log books.
• Flight tests the applicable aircraft to determine that the airframe, power plant, accessories, and items of equipage are functioning in accordance with predetermined requirements.
• Performs maintenance operational checks of aircraft on the ground through engine run-up, aircraft taxiing or use of auxiliary power or testing equipment, to assure that aircraft systems or components disturbed during an inspection or maintenance action have been repaired, reassembled, or adjusted satisfactorily.
• Performs general maintenance operational test flights to prove the airworthiness of the complete aircraft.
• Completion of test flight check sheets in accordance with the applicable organizational maintenance manual.
• Performs limited test flights when it is necessary to prove proper functioning of specific components or systems.
• After each test flight, performs a thorough visual inspection to the extent necessary to assure that deficiencies developed as a result of the test flight are detected.
• Enters appropriate data on aircraft log books to indicate faults/shortcomings.
• Releases aircraft for flight as applicable.

OTHER or ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• May be required to perform the duties of Senior Safety Representative
• May be assigned as Chief Pilot for program/work-site
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills:
• The Maintenance Test Pilot is able to fly single or twin-engine airplanes or helicopters primarily under visual flight rules.
• Must possess complete knowledge of applicable aircraft and systems to be flown.
• Has the ability to interpret and use all applicable technical data for the aircraft.

Experience and Education:
• Completion of high school or equivalent and military flight and/or applicable training courses are required.
• Must hold FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with rating applicable to aircraft to be flown.
• Must meet the experience requirements of AFR55-22, AR95-10, AR95-20 and DCMA-8210 pertaining to each aircraft prior to acting in the capacity of pilot-in command on maintenance test flights.

Physical Requirements:
• Must currently possess and be able to retain a FAA Class II Flight Physical or Military Flight Surgeon physical requirements.
• May work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outside to include inclement weather conditions.
• Must be able to walk, bend, climb and lift objects up to 20lbs.
