Job Description
Position: Instrumentation Engineer -Aviation Field
Location: Atlantic City, New Jersey
Duration: Contract to Permanent

The Instrumentation Engineer will be working on a number of airfield pavement related projects where services are performed for design; data analysis; test planning; operations; and maintenance of test facilities.
Team will assist the FAA's Airport R&D efforts to develop pavement design standards to meet future aircraft requirements.
These efforts include the construction of full-scale airport pavement structures and full scale traffic tests with wheel loads of up to 75,000 pounds.
The major tasks are:
Construct airport pavements
Conduct non-destructive tests(NDT)
Develop pavement design software and pavement analysis software tools.

Individual will recommend, design, procure and install state of the art instrumentation and data collection systems for various research projects. Provide installation, maintenance, data collection, data analysis, and reports for various airport pavement instrumentation sites. at Test Facility and various airports nationwide. Instrument sections of pavements to monitor response induced by loads (pressure, strain, stress, etc.) and changes in environmental conditions (temperature, moisture, etc.)

Daily Responsibilities Continued Provide technical expertise to support airport pavement instrumentation projects, which will include:
o Identify candidate airport projects for instrumentation.
o Develop project specific objectives and identify critical pavement and environmental responses to be measured for meeting the objectives.
o Develop instrumentation and installation plan, procure instrumentation and data acquisition system.
o Install the instrumentation and data acquisition system; test the system for reliability and workability.
o Provide periodic maintenance on the system and upgrades (if needed).
o Develop database for the projects and populate them with the data collected.
o Prepare Field Instrumentation Reports

Since our work is primarily research and development, there is no set answer to any one problem, so flexibility and adaptability are required. This is complicated by the FAA's changing priorities. The Instrumentation Engineer will work with high level engineers from SRA, the FAA and outside consultants.

Additional requirements
o Instrumentation plans once the airport site has been selected.
o Project Specific Report once the airport site instrumentation has been completed.
o Literature Review and Summary Reports

The position provides the opportunity to participate in research and development projects that are unique and challenging, with internationally recognized airfield pavement experts, that will have an impact on the safety of the public.

MUST HAVE
At least 5 years experience which demonstrates a professional knowledge of the instrumentation of civil structures.

Position requires thorough knowledge of instrumentation design and engineering techniques, as well as software programming, data collection system configuration, CAD and graphics skills.
Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of instrumentation and engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs.
