Responsibilities
A Lead Customer Service Agent acts as the operational performance specialist, resource coordinator, key communicator, and coach. Ensures "on-time performance" and 100% compliance with operational goals by monitoring associated terminal operations activities. Reinforces consistent compliance with safety, security and industry regulated policies and procedures. Coordinates with terminal operations supervisor and fellow leads to adjust staffing as operation warrants. Ensures resources are available to meet operational objectives. Communicates with CSA team members, control center, supervisors and other departments to optimize operational performance. Briefs agents on operational issues and information on safety, policy and procedures. Provide technical guidance to complete ramp activities in timely manner. Reinforces positive agent performance. Works with supervisor to identify agent training needs and compliance issues. Must be able to perform all the essential job functions of the CSA position which include: Load, unload, and transfer baggage, cargo and mail from carts, conveyor belts, and containers, and on and off aircraft. Perform work that involves repeatedly lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling items which weigh about 40 lbs. on average and can weigh over 75 lbs. CSAs lift 75 to more than 100 pieces of cargo in 25 minutes (approximately one bag every 15 seconds). Bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl to move cargo into containers, aircraft, and carts frequently (1-9 times/hour) on a daily basis. Climb inside a cargo bin or aircraft belly to rearrange loads as necessary for balance and security. Guide aircraft into and out of the terminal jet way areas by communicating with pilots. Guide catering trucks. Communicate with the Control Center and other departments to ensure efficient and safe aircraft and baggage movement. Operate a variety of equipment, including two-way radios, baggage transfer vehicles, and handheld tracking devices on a daily basis. Drive and operate various types of ground support equipment in loading/unloading aircraft, transferring cargo, and repositioning aircraft. Standing and walking continuously for entire shift. Depending on the needs of the operations, your supervisor may require you to perform other functions as needed.
Qualifications
Must possess sound leadership ability. Must be knowledgeable of Continental's ramp and safety procedures. Must be a good communicator. Must be able to perform well in high pressure situations. Previous hub experience helpful. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word). Must have current experience as a Ramp Agent/Baggage Handler (CSA). High school diploma/GED or equivalent required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid US state driver's license. (Suspended, expired, revoked or denied licenses are not valid.) Must have effective communication skills including the ability to read, write and speak English. Must adhere to Continental's dress code. Previous outdoor work or work in jobs requiring heavy lifting and safety awareness preferred. Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship. Must be able to clear a Continental background check and a fingerprint-based criminal history check. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain credentials necessary for the position. Position-specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal Service clearances. Must be able to pass a pre-placement physical abilities test, hearing and vision tests, and drug screen. Must comply with Continental's Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Policy. Must NOT have lived outside of the United States in the past 5 years for any period longer than six months, with the exception of military duty or government-approved exceptions. Work Hours Must be flexible to work any shift assigned within a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Hours can include late nights and early mornings. Regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with Continental's policies is required. Overtime available/required depending upon operational need. Work Environment Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow, cold, heat, humidity) and in baggage areas that are open to the outside weather conditions. Must be willing to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time. Must be willing to work where there will be exposure to high noise levels. Must be willing to work in a high-pressure, safety-sensitive, deadline driven environment. *SAJ*
