Responsibilities

In this role the intern will be responsible for: Information security risk assessment: Maintaining and updating Information Security policies, standards and guidelines. Ensuing security configuration of various systems and databases is in compliance with company's security standards.   Coordinating with other teams for response to any incidents and providing security solutions. Be familiar with security regulations, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI DSS and HIPAA. Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with information security techniques and best practices. The technical focus will be on the assessment and analysis of large, dispersed, and complex network and information systems, as well as risk assessment. This position will require the ability to work in a fast-paced, high stress environment where conditions change often and may require multitasking on a number of security projects.

Qualifications

Undergraduate or graduate student in a technical discipline or related field, such as other formal training in IT audit, and information security? (e.g. Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc). Experience on system, database or application security is preferred. Understanding of operation systems, such as Unix and Windows systems security. Understanding of web application and database security. Familiarity with various Information Security frameworks and best practices. Exemplary written and verbal communication skills. Ability to intern during the fall of 2010 (Generally from mid-August to late-December). Willing to temporarily relocate to the Houston area at your own expense. Willing to pay for your own housing while doing a summer internship in Houston. This position requires a referral from a professor or by a member of faculty. Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship. Please be advised: This job requires working in an area covered by the City of Houston Ordinance Against Smoking - City Code Chapter 21.
