Cargo Agent - LRD Laredo, TX

Starting Salary: $10.14 per hour   The Cargo Agent is responsible for the safe and secure handling and transit of cargo and mail through the warehouse facilities and airport operations areas. Responsibilities

Load, unload and transfer cargo and mail from one place to another. Remove boxes/cargo from vendor trucks and place on skid or ground for loading into containers or onto pallets. Lift and sort boxes/cargo by flight, destination, or vendor and move from cargo area to truck to load vendor's truck. Push/pull cargo into position when loading a cart or container. Manually push/pull loaded carts into position for loading or hook up to pushback tractor. Perform work that involves repeatedly lifting and carrying items typically weighing 26 to 50 lbs.  Pushing and pulling containers and pallets weighing 200 to 10,200 lbs. Bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl to move, stack, and unstack cargo into carts or containers or when building a pallet, frequently and on a daily basis. Bend toop to connect or release nets on steel pallets. Ensure that tooling, equipment, vehicles, and the facilities are operated in a safe and proficient manner and are always turned-over in good order. Verify and inspect cargo by count, weight, size, dimensions, and physical condition of all shipments. Ensure proper and clear documentation of all pieces in shipment (both inbound and outbound) is received. Ensure cargo shipments are maintained in the proper destination zones and containers while in transit through the facilities and via the service roads. Use a computer to monitor the movement and documentation of freight and flights (including arrival, data capture, pre-manifesting, and screening) via CARGOTRAC and CORE. Distinguish colors of signals on the taxiway. Ensure that Continental's standards, policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and station controls are followed and executed consistently. Maintain a good working knowledge of all security directives, manuals, tariffs, standards, policies, procedures, and reference materials integral to a safe and efficient operation. Daily use of a variety of equipment such as two-way radios, baggage transfer vehicles and handheld tracking devices. Operate heavy machinery (i.e. forklifts, pushback tractor, material handling devices). Continuous standing and walking. Depending on the needs of the operations, your supervisor may require you to perform other functions as needed.

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or equivalent required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid US driver's license. (Suspended, expired, revoked or denied licenses are not valid.) Must have effective communication skills including the ability to read, write and speak English. Must adhere to Continental's dress code. Previous outdoor work or work in jobs requiring heavy lifting and safety awareness preferred. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship. Must be able to clear a Continental background check and a fingerprint-based criminal history check. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain credentials necessary for the position. Position-specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal Service clearances. Must be able to pass a pre-placement physical abilities test, hearing and vision tests, and drug screen. Must not have interviewed with Continental Airlines for a Cargo Agent position in the past 6 months. Work Hours Must be flexible to work any shift assigned within a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Hours can include late nights and early mornings. Regular attendance and punctuality in accordance with Continental's policies is required. Overtime available/required depending on operational need. Work Environment Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow, cold, heat, humidity) and in baggage areas that are open to the outside weather conditions. Must be willing to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time. Must be willing to work where there will be exposure to high noise levels. Must be willing to work in a high-pressure, safety-sensitive, deadline driven environment. Must be willing to complete the Dangerous Goods certification program and re-certify as required. *SAJ*
